Sunday Morning, 100% Live Tech Support

I’m still unemployed.

I know my next job is out there.

I know my next job is out there.

However, today being Sunday, a new week begins. For Iris, this means that she will be taking live technical support calls for Verizon Small Business DSL customers. Her training wheels are off and now it’s time to help these people re-connect!

I continue to find advertised jobs that I am perfectly qualified for and pump out resumes. One of these days I hope I will get a response. Job hunting is not an emotionally re-enforcing pastime. You can send out 100 resumes to places that you perfectly match or exceed what potential employers are looking for, and if you’re lucky, you may get 5 responses. How’s that for a confidence builder? But it’s okay. We just need to keep our eyes open, paper & ink in the printer, and keep on truckin’.

So that’s what I’ll do. If you’re in the same boat, welcome aboard. Let’s get going.

Everything’s A-Okay with Iris

Having staid the last three days in the hospital with Iris, I’m happy to say she’s doing fine. We knew for a while that she had an ovarian cyst that had to come out. Having been let go from my job on February 2nd, we also knew that we only had insurance for another 26 days. It was time for the ovary and cyst to come out.

We scheduled her surgery for immediately after her GYN returned from a mission he was going on for a week in Cuba. Three days ago Iris went into the hospital. She had surgery on Tuesday and we came home yesterday evening, Thursday.

The surgery went better than planned. Instead of removing an ovary along with the cyst, they removed the cyst (which had wrapped around itself three times) inside one of her fallopian tubes, along with the tube. Her ovary was perfectly healthy, so there was no need to have the ovary removed or a complete hysterectomy. Two days later, she’s home and resting peacefully.

I made Iris an omelet for breakfast, and our friend Mary made us a Delicious dinner of chicken and dumplings, a Waldorf salad and home made rolls.  Yum.  (Not to mention some scrumptious and salmonella free peanut butter cookies!)

Thanks to everyone for their well-wishes and prayers.

Tomorrow I have to get three resumes/inquiries off to fulfil my employment search requirements.

So for tonight, thank you God, (I’m allowed to say that, it’s my blog,) and good night. ~ Les

Week 2, unemployed but moving forward. I’ll be hunting new opportunities and sending our resumes. Perhaps I’ll even get my first unemployment check in. Wouldn’t that be nice?

For any others that are out there looking for a job, best of success to you! Let me know how it goes for you, what works and what doesn’t. We’re going to find something good out there. ~ Les

A weekend without a Monday to follow

Today is Sunday, but tomorrow’s not Monday. Or at least that’s the way it feels. Tomorrow is my first Monday in 3-1/2 years that I won’t have to “report to my cube” in the morning. If being without a job wasn’t so stressful, it would be comical to listen to someone say “I wish I could go back to my cube tomorrow.” But alas, I wish I could.

Pip pip and cherio, however. I’m not going to let my morale sag, there’s no reason. Chant with me… “Life will go on, life WILL go on!” I have the means to search for jobs… a working car, the internet, and the motivation to carry on. Things could definitely be worse.

So even though I’m not going “into the office” tomorrow, I will do certain things that will move me closer to having another job. I won’t let a day go by without searching for a job, one way or another.

  • I will tidy up my resume so that it is up to date. A few additions and changing my last job date from “October 2005 – Present” to “October 2005 – February 2009.”
  • I will search for opportunities on the internet.
  • I’ll set myself up with

That’s for starters. I will also work with Adobe Elements to familiarize myself with how that video editing software works. I have had this software for a while but never used it. Perhaps this will improve my marketability.

That’s it for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll go to work on my first no-job Monday. ~ Les

PS: As always, I’m grateful to my friends who are dropping me notes by email to keep my chin up. I shall.

Say good night to our kitties. “The Three Amigos.”
